Privacy Policy

Nouriva ("the App") is developed and operated by Zane Benton ("I", "me", "my"). I take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your rights.

1. Data I Collect

Data you provide directly:

• Account information — email address when you create an account.
• Profile data — goals, dietary restrictions, allergens, body stats (height, weight, date of birth, biological sex) entered during onboarding or in settings.
• Food logs — meals, photos, barcode scans, and nutrition entries you record.
• Recipes & grocery lists — content you create or save within the App.
• Chat messages — conversations with the AI assistant.

Data collected with your permission:

• Apple Health data — biometrics (weight, height, activity, sleep) read via HealthKit, only when you grant permission. Nouriva may also write nutrition data back to Apple Health.
• Camera & photos — accessed only when you choose to scan a barcode or log food via photo. Images are processed for food recognition and are not stored on my servers beyond the duration of the AI request.

Data collected automatically:

• Device & usage data — basic analytics such as app version, device model, and crash reports may be collected via Apple's built-in frameworks. I do not use third-party analytics SDKs.

2. How I Use Your Data

• To provide and personalize the App's features (nutrition tracking, AI insights, recipe generation, calorie targets).
• To process AI requests — food photos and chat messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. These requests are transient and not used to train AI models.
• To sync your data across your devices via iCloud/CloudKit (controlled by your Apple ID settings).
• To send notifications you've opted into (meal reminders, fasting updates).
• To improve the App and fix bugs.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your food logs, profile, recipes, and grocery lists are stored locally on your device using SwiftData and synced via Apple CloudKit (iCloud). I do not operate a central database of user nutrition data.

Account authentication (email/password) is handled by a backend service on Cloudflare Workers. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext.

AI requests (photo analysis, chat) are transmitted over HTTPS to Anthropic's API. I do not retain copies of these requests or responses on my servers.

4. Data Sharing

I do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared only in these limited circumstances:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — food photos and chat messages are sent for AI processing. Anthropic's API usage policy applies.
• Apple — subscription and purchase data is managed by Apple via StoreKit. iCloud sync is managed by Apple via CloudKit.
• Legal requirements — I may disclose data if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

5. HealthKit Data

Nouriva does not store Apple Health data on external servers. HealthKit data is read locally on your device to personalize calorie targets and provide insights. HealthKit data is never shared with third parties, used for advertising, or sold.

6. Children's Privacy

Nouriva is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact me and I will delete it.

7. Your Rights

• Access & export — your data lives on your device and iCloud. You can view and export it at any time.
• Deletion — delete your account and all associated data from the App's settings. You can also delete the app to remove all local data.
• Revoke permissions — revoke HealthKit, camera, or notification access at any time in iOS Settings.

8. Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the App or this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
